All communication regarding your application will be through your RPL Service Desk ticket.

Step 4: Submit Supporting Documents

Depending on your application, you may be asked to provide one or more of the following:

  • Official transcripts from post-secondary institutions or training providers
  • Detailed course outlines or syllabi
  • Professional translations
  • Credential evaluations
  • Other supporting documents as requested

If documentation is required, you will be directed to upload it in Student Self-Service using the RPL button. Documents submitted by email or through your RPL Service Desk ticket will not be accepted.

Visit the RPL Document Requirements and Upload Guide webpage for information on documents that may be requested and step-by-step instructions to upload them.

Step 5: Assessment

Once documentation has been received, the RPL team will complete a review. If your application is based on non-formal or informal learning, additional assessment activities will be required.

To learn more about RPL requirements for applications based on non-formal or informal prior learning, visit the RPL Equivalency Portfolio page.

Step 6: Decision and Outcome

Final decision and availability of results may depend on several factors:

  • Does the documentation provided meet the requirements for evaluation? Are additional documents or translations required?
  • Have your courses been previously evaluated for transfer credit?
  • Are you applying for Equivalency based on non-formal or informal learning and required to complete a separate Brightspace course?
  • Does the level of assessment require additional input from a subject matter expert from the Academic School?
  • Is your program’s curriculum still under development, resulting in a hold being placed on your application until it is finalized?

Some applications can be completed quickly, and you may see results with 1-2 weeks. Some applications are more complex and require additional time to evaluate. We will keep you updated throughout the process on timeline expectations.

Approved credit:

  • Credit will be applied to your academic record
  • Learn how to find your results in Student Self-Service (pdf)
  • Credit may be awarded as either CR (transfer credit) or EQ (equivalency credit)
  • CR or EQ are not factored into your GPA (Grade Point Average)

If you have questions about your approved credit, respond to the ticket within 3 business days of receiving your RPL results, and a member of the RPL team will advise you of your options.

To be considered for additional credit, you may need to submit new or updated documentation.

Step 7: Impact of Awarded Credit

If more than 40% of your terms’ credits are from RPL, you may lose full-time student status.

This can impact:

  • Study Permit Status or PGWP-eligibility
  • Student loans
  • Sponsorships or funding

To learn how receiving RPL may affect your full-time student status, see Understanding Your RPL Approval.

IMPORTANT: You are responsible to seek academic advising from your program's Academic Chair or Coordinating Instructor to ensure you remain on track to graduate. The International Student Support team can advise on immigration status impacts.
