Policy

New Brunswick Community College endorses the principles set out in the federal (TCPS). ½ûÂþÌìÌà therefore formed a volunteer Research Ethics Board (REB). They are mandated with ensuring any research with human participants conducted by College employees or representatives adheres to the TCPS and ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ’s Ethical Conduct of Research Involving Humans (3303) policy.

Application Schedule

For Principal Investigators

Applications are due on the first day of the month (or the next business day if the first falls on a weekend or holiday).

The ½ûÂþÌìÌà Research Ethics Board meets on the second Thursday of each month of the regular academic year.

There are no REB meetings in July or August. Applications, Renewals, and Change Requests must be submitted by June 1 to be reviewed prior to September.

For Faculty Supervisors Leading Course-Based Projects by Students

Please submit your Faculty Application to Involve Human Participants in Course-Based Research (3303.4672) for eligible projects to your Academic Chair and REB@nbcc.ca at least two weeks in advance of your project start date so that a delegated committee can be formed. Faculty are welcome to submit eligibility questions to REB@nbcc.ca.

Application Attachments

Please use clear and descriptive file names for all attachments.

Required for all applications:

  • Course on Research Ethics Certificate of Completion for all team members listed on the application (unless already on file with ½ûÂþÌìÌÃ’s College Office of Research Enterprise).

Additional Attachments for Regular Review (as applicable to the specific project):

  • Recruitment materials (Posters, emails, templates for social media posts)
  • Information letter for participants
  • Consent form. See:
  • Waiver of confidentiality
  • Script of oral explanation given to participants
  • Survey / Focus group / Interview / etc. questions
  • Debriefing script / feedback given at end of survey
  • Data Management Plan
  • Any other relevant research instruments or materials

Additional Application Materials Required for Multi-Jurisdictional Review:

  • Letter or Notice of Research Ethics Approval from eligible external institution
  • Ethics application package approved by external institution
