Are you ready to take on the big machines that keep industries moving? Our Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician Diploma Program is designed to launch your career in servicing and maintaining the powerful equipment used in construction, transportation, forestry, and mining.

This 2-year program begins with a common first year, giving you a strong foundation in mechanical systems and trade fundamentals. From there, you’ll specialize in heavy-duty equipment, gaining hands-on experience with hydraulic systems, diesel engines, and electronic controls.

Optional Co-op Work Placement
Put your skills to work in the real world. Choose to participate in a co-op placement that connects you with industry employers, giving you valuable on-the-job experience and a head start in your career.

Early Exit Certificate Option
Not ready to commit to the full diploma? You can opt for an early exit after the first year and receive a Heavy-Duty Equipment / Truck and Transport Certificate, recognizing your foundational skills and preparing you for entry-level roles or further apprenticeship pathways.

Whether you're aiming for a full diploma or a fast-track certificate, this program offers flexibility, industry relevance, and a pathway to success in the trades.


Duration

The requirements for this diploma program may be achieved within two academic years of full-time study.

    Career Possibilities

    Graduates of this program may be employed wherever heavy-duty equipment or commercial trucks are sold, serviced or repaired. This includes equipment dealers, garages, railways, provincial and municipal departments, and forestry, mining, agricultural and construction companies.  They may also be employed as a Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician, Truck and Transport Service Technician, Logging Equipment technician, Mining Equipment technician, Diesel Mechanic, Farm Equipment technician, and Construction Equipment technician.



    Specific Considerations

    This occupation requires physical fitness and good coordination as climbing and lifting may be required. The hours of work may be irregular and may include weekends, and evenings when required.
